I did it! I shirred! Isn't that exciting? Well it is for me! And I must tell you, it's quite simple.
I had shared a bunch of ideas on sewing a shirred summer dress in my last post and while my first choice was to do the In The Garden Dress, I wanted/needed a quick fix, so I opted to make my own variation of the Playful Days Double Layer Dress instead.
The tutorial is super simple to follow, but I wanted to simplify it even more by eliminating the top layer of the dress. I whipped this dress up in under an hour, and yes - that includes the shirring!
The other change I made was to the straps. I didn't want the ties so I just cut the bias tape to size and continued it down and around the armhole so it was one continuous piece. (If you do this make sure to measure and try it on the child BEFORE sewing).
Now that I got my initial fix on shirring, I'm going to make another more complex dress for my 6 year old who has already explained to me in detail how she would like hers to look. I hope I can come through for her!!!
If you haven't tried shirring, please do - it is super easy, and super forgiving. The outcome is awesome!
Once you figure it out the possibilities are endless!!
