Summer Shirring: Project Ideas

I just had my first spool of elastic thread delivered.  Yup...first - I've never used it before and I have to tell you I'm quite excited to try my hand at some shirring.  I figured the best thing to make for a starter project is a summer dress for my daughter.

I've been hunting around for a good tutorial, and I thought I'd share some of my finds in case you wanted to give it a try too.

Here are my top prospects:

Simple Shirred Sundress
by Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom
This is a super simple dress, made from 1 yard of fabric and some bias tape.  Affordable and adorable!

Pillowcase Dress
by That girl....That quilt
A shirred take on the simple pillowcase dress.  This one adds a nice ruffle at the bottom.

"In The Garden" Shirred Twirly Dress
by From an Igloo
This one is a bit more involved, but oh so pretty!  It gives you two options for the straps too!

Playful Days Double Layer Top or Dress
by From an Igloo
Another adorable dress/top.

Hmmmm....difficult decision.  Which one do you think I should make?

  3. I just learned to shir a couple of weeks ago and made a dress that I won a free pattern for. I can't remember where but I watched a lot of YouTube videos and they were a ton of help. It all hinges on the bobbin. That is what I learned.
