Why Etsy? There are so many reasons to love this site.....let me tell you why I love it:
Handmade
Let's start with the obvious. Etsy products need to fall into one of three categories - supplies, vintage or handmade. I'm all about handmade. Handmade, to me, means that someone put personal time and effort into making the product. It means no "Made in China" label...something that's hard to find these days.
Momprenuers
There are so many Moms out there that have made the decision to put their careers on hold while staying at home with their children. Many of them have become entreprenurial by putting their talents to work for them and opened up an Etsy shop. When you purchase from a Mom, you are supporting someone who is working hard to maintain a healthy balance of life, work and family and someone who is fulfilling their need and desire to be creative and bring in a little extra income while doing so.
Unique
Products you find on Etsy are typically not mass produced. The seller put thought and care into designing and making each and every one of their products. When products are made by hand (not automated machines), each item is different - there are no duplicates. Handmade is not perfect - there may be a skipped stitch, a slightly different placement of a part, a measurement that is 1/8" off from the last one, a dimple in the ceramic - this is what makes each and every product special!
Personalization
There are so many shops that offer personalization of their products! Whether you want to have your name stamped onto some jewlery or want to choose the fabric of your handbag, Etsy is the place to find it. Sure, you may have to wait a bit longer for your custom product, but it is worth it. Every custom purchase that I have made on Etsy has exceeded my expectations.
Creativity
It's endless on Etsy. Really....there are some VERY talented, creative people to be found here. You will find things that you never dreamed existed....things you never knew you needed until you saw it....things that are beautiful beyond words, and things that have merged form, function and beauty into one. And even if there nothing you desire, some of the product photography is worth a peek alone.
If you have some time, take advantage of the "Pounce" button and see where it brings you - I guarantee that you will be be "oohhh-ing" and "ahhhh-ing" within a few clicks!
Love
Most likely, love went into the product - and I can guarantee when gifting a product made with love, the receiver of that gift will feel that love. The gifts that I have given from Etsy have all been very well received. The items I've purchased for myself I REALLY love!
The People & Experience
I have been purchasing online for many years and I have never been so impressed with the overall shopping experience as I have on Etsy. In most cases, the artist/seller stands behind their product. For the most part, customer service is awesome. People want to ensure that the customer is happy with their purchase. The buying experience is so much more personal than buying on somplace like Amazon or even eBay. If you have a question, you get to correspond and deal with the real person behind the product, not some automated system. From the selling end, the customers are a pleasure to deal with too. Having sold on eBay and Etsy, I much prefer Etsy. I think the overall nature of Etsy and what it represents promotes a pleasurable community of people.
So that, in my opinion, is why you should buy or sell on Etsy. If you haven't already, do check it out. Here are a few listings to get you started!
