TUTORIAL: Who Gives A Hoot?

It’s Scrappy Saturday again!  These weeks are flying by!  I have to admit, coming up with a new tutorial every week is not an easy task.  This week was especially difficult and I wasn’t sure I was going to get one done on time…but I somehow managed to multi-task and make this little guy while my 4 yr old made a glued version as a rainy-day craft and thankfully my sweet husband stayed up late working to get my pattern published in PDF format.
Within the past year I have seen a lot of owl-inspired decorations pop up all over the place.  And I can see why…owls are not only wise but they are adorable too!  A perfect compliment for any nursery, bookshelf or couch.  So here is my version of a shelf-sitter (or playmate for a little one).

Ok, I know my owl looks a bit angry.  He wasn’t supposed to, and he really didn’t look that way prior to stuffing, but when I stuffed him and his eyes got pushed closer together and he got a bit of an angry look on his face, so my tip to you is make sure you place the eyes in a way that won’t end up with the downward angry glare post-stuffing!  If I had time, I would have remade him, but I didn’t have the time, and he has since grown on me!

For those of you who have children that aren’t old enough to sew, you can easily make this into a craft for that they can enjoy too.  I had my 4 yr old cut out all the  pieces then glue on the wings.  I then sewed the front and back main pieces together, turned them right side out for her and she stuffed her owl.  She then glued the face on and I sewed up the opening.  She loved the chance to do a “Mommy and Me” project.

You can find the printable directions and pattern <<HERE>>

Have fun with this pattern….shrink it or enlarge it to make different size owls, use dry beans or rice to stuff it to use as a bookend, design your own face….the possibilities are endless!
Enjoy!
