I often come across really cool sewing projects when surfing the web. Today I thought I’d share some of my finds with you. I don’t know if I’ll ever get a chance to do them, but maybe you will. If you do, I’d love it if you shared your finished pictures with me!
I’ve set up a group called <SHARED SEWPLICITY> if you want to share ANY completed projects that I’ve featured on my blog. I am hoping to run some contests based on submissions sometime in the future – so please do post!
Now, back to my project finds…By the way, all of these are FREE!
Recover an Umbrella (Threads Magazine)
Now here is a very cool project. Most of us have one (or a few) broken umbrellas in our closet. And if you don’t it’s worth buying one for this project. This tutorial shows you how you can transform your beat up umbrella into a one-of-a-kind, made by you, fit-your-style, rainy day accessory. (wow, that was wordy)
It teaches you all about the parts of an umbrella, explains what type of fabric would work well and provides detailed instructions on how to deconstruct the old one and reconstruct your new one using your fabric.
I have a roll of laminated cotton in my closet that is just begging to become a cute umbrella for my daughter.

Jazzy Ironing Board (Sew4Fun)
This project has been on my list for months. I would LOVE to recover my ironing board with some pretty, flowery, eye-appealing fabric. The generic ironing board covers you can buy in the store are just ugly. I will get to this at some point!
Be aware, this project does eat up a good amount of fabric – A total of 3 1/2 yards (1 3/4 of each pattern) to be exact. But I think it’s worth it for a tool that you look at every time you sew. How pretty would this ironing board look in your sewing space?

The Hourglass Pillow (Amy Butler)
Of course I couldn’t have a project list without featuring something by Amy Butler. This is one of her free patterns. How cute are these pillows? Throw some on your bed, on your couch, on a chair or wherever. Brighten up a room with these accent pillows. The potential pattern combinations are endless!

Peekaboo Lampshade (Pretty Ditty)
Ok, this is REALLY cool. I don’t know where Pretty Ditty came up with this idea, but I give her props for this one. She transformed an ordinary, weathered lampshade into this beautiful piece of art.
The wonderful thing about this project is that it uses fabric scraps and muslin. This is a very affordable project.
This project will take some time and patience, but look at the results! I just love it! I have a few old lamps that are in desperate need of a makeover….how about you?
You can find the tutorial <HERE>
By the way, Pretty Ditty has an Etsy shop where you can purchase some of her sewing patterns. To visit, click <HERE>
I hope you enjoy these fun project finds as much as I do. Remember to post to <SHARED SEWPLICITY> if you complete any of these, or any of my other featured projects!
