Tutorial – Reversible Coffee Cozy

Here is a neat little project for all of you coffee lovers!  Instead of the boring cardboard ring your coffee shop gives you, add a little of your own style and be kind to the environment as well!

This project will take you under 30 minutes and will use up some of your fabric scraps.

What you will need:
> A cardboard coffee ring to use as your pattern
> 2 coordinating fabric scraps about 12” x 12”
> A 12” x 12” piece of fusible fleece or batting (I use fusible fleece)
> 2” pieces of male/female 3/4” Velcro
> Coordinating thread
> Fabric marking pencil or pen

Step 1
1.  Open up the cardboard ring and cut 1 of each coordinating fabrics and fusible fleece following its shape.  Be sure to cut the fabric at least 1/2” larger for a seam allowance. 

 

Step 2
1.  Iron the fusible fleece (or sew the batting) onto one piece of fabric.

Step 3
1.  Place the fabrics right side together.
2.  Sew the pieces together using a 1/2” seam.  Be sure to leave an opening on the end so you can turn it right side out.
 
3.  Trim the corners before turning to achieve a clean corner.

Step 4
1.  Using a turning tool (I use a chopstick) carefully turn the cozy right side out.

2.  Iron the seams.
 

3.  Press the raw edges of the open side in to create a clean closure. 

4. Starting on the open side, edge-stitch 1/8” around the entire cozy to close the opening and create a finished look.  

Step 5
1.  Cut one piece of the Velcro to follow the shape of one end of the cozy.

2.  Cut the other piece to follow the shape of the other end of the cozy (make sure you place it on the opposite side of the cozy – the other fabric).
  

3.  Using a zigzag stitch, sew the Velcro to the cozy.

You’re Done!

**GIFT IDEA**
You can come up with some creative ideas for gifting these…I made a set for my cousin and her husband for Christmas, put them in a matching fabric basket along with some gift cards to Starbucks, mints and some chocolate.  I would love to get something like this!
