A Gift Worth Giving: Homemade Vanilla Extract

Every year I try to come up with a thoughtful holiday gift idea for the people who make a difference in my children's lives....teachers, coaches, babysitters, etc.  Since there are so many of these people, I need to keep costs low, but that doesn't mean the gift will be any less special.  This year I took on the task of making some homemade vanilla extract.

 Cool, right?

The awesome thing about this is that this is super easy and pretty much everyone uses Vanilla Extract!
Do you want to know how to make it?  Ok....I'll share my secret with you (shhhhhh, don't tell)

What You Need:
A dozen 4oz. Boston Round Bottles
Unflavored Vodka
Fresh Vanilla Beans (I used organic)

How To Do It:

Sterilize your bottles.
Cut the Vanilla Beans in half, then slice lengthwise to expose the bean paste (but don't scrape it out).

Place about 4 Vanilla halves into each bottle and fill the bottle with Vodka.
A funnel makes this super easy.

Make up some labels on your computer and stick them on.  Finish with a nice ribbon.

IMPORTANT:  These need to steep for about 2 months to reach full strength.  You either need to plan ahead, or include a little note letting the recipient know when they can use it!

That's about it!  A beautiful gift to let someone know that you appreciate them!
