As I've posted, the past few weeks have been hectic. The kids have been out of school, it's been hot as $&**%, and my stress level has increased as I'm not able to work a regular schedule.
My kids started summer camp this week, and even though it gave me a few hours to get stuff done, I have to admit, I was so overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that piled up over the last couple of weeks I was somewhat paralyzed.
Today, as I sat in a waiting room waiting while my car was serviced, I started thinking about all of the things that I could or should be doing instead....get that bib order finished, clean the kitchen, water the flowers, finish my monthly bookkeeping, call a handyman, get a load of laundry finished....
As I got more and more anxious about all I wasn't getting done while my kids were in camp, I saw the corner of my kindle hanging out of my bag and decided to read to get my mind off all of it. Something quite amazing happened.... Within 10 minutes I was completely immersed in my book and the lives of the fictional characters within it and forgot about my looming chores.
Believe it or not, 2 hours later when they told me my car was finished, I was disappointed I couldn't read some more......I actually felt refreshed that I had (or was forced) to use the time I had to indulge in something I truly enjoy....reading!
And when I got home, I felt that I was in a better place to tackle the mounting task list before me.
So, the lesson for the day is "Me" time does not mean household chores, work, or errand running. It means taking some time to do what it is that YOU ENJOY doing. Trust me....you will be more productive, and a whole lot happier if you do.
