A Personalized LEGO Sack!

My girls have a birthday party to attend next weekend for a little boy who is turning 6.  As a mother of 2 girls, trying to come up with a good boy present is no easy task.  I always try to give gifts that fit the person's personality. Upon visiting this boy's home, I realized that he was very into LEGO, specifically the Ninjago collection.  The lightbulb went off!

I had seen a while back a tutorial for a LEGO sack and knew that was the perfect present.  I came across several tutorials and decided I wanted to combine the following two:

I wanted the single fabric of the first tutorial, but I really loved the cleanliness and ease of the grommets from the 2nd tutorial.
So I ended up using a lightweight canvas for the interior with a cotton quilting cotton reinforced with a lightweight interfacing for the exterior.

I also wanted to personalize the bag, so I found a Ninjago figure embroidery design and added the little boy's name.  I embroidered a large piece of canvas and used a reverse applique technique (you can see how to do this HERE) to attach it to the bag exterior.

The bag measures approximately 40" in diameter.  The weight of the canvas and the use of the grommets allows this to open completely flat - great for playing!

Finally, I used a nylon string and a cord stop for the closure.
