Finding My Embroidery Style

I've had my embroidery machine for about a month now...although it didn't take long for me to figure out how to use it, it did take me a bit of time to figure out what it was I wanted to do with it.  I played around with a little bit of applique work, I tested out different types of embroidery designs on different types of fabrics, visited about a ja-zillion embroidery websites and purchased a bunch of different type of designs.

Although I knew I would offer applique lettering in my etsy shop for personalization purposes...

I wasn't quite sure about how to incorporate embroidery design.  Typical novelty kid designs are not really my thing.  Yes, big blue elephants with roundish eyes and pink and purple hippos are really cute - believe me, I have my share of these designs around my house - but they are also a dime a dozen, and don't really fit the Sewplicity brand.

My product line offers more of an adult feel with kid appeal.  I needed to find something along those lines within the embroidery world and I was having a tough time of it until I stumbled across Meringue Designs.  The designer and owner, Cynthia offers some absolutely beautiful designs all of which offer a simple, modern, sophisticated, whimsical feel.  I immediately knew that this was the type of embroidery I wanted....no.....NEEDED to offer my customers.

From that point I was able to search around and find other designs that fit my style.  And now that I've identified my niche, you will start to see things like these slowly making their way into my shop.

 And... I was so inspired by Meringue Designs signature pillow, I made one for myself.
