WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- 1/2 yd for your main fabric
- 1/2 yd for your lining
- Ruler
- Scissors/Rotary Cutter
- Thread
- Iron
- Pins
CUT FABRIC
> Cut two 18" x 11" rectangles (one from main fabric and the other from the lining)
This will make a bag that fits a standard bottle of wine
> Cut two 1 3/4" x 26" strips of fabric (1 each of main fabric and lining)
MAKE THE TIE
> Place long strips right side together and sew down one side using a 1/2" seam allowance
> Press the seam open
> Fold the edges in towards the center seam
> Fold in half and press
You now have a tie with one fabric on either side.
> Top stitch down both sides of the tie
> Finish by placing a knot at both ends of the tie
MAKE BAG EXTERIOR
> Fold the main fabric in half length-wise (right sides together)
> Sew down the long open side and across the bottom of the bag (1/2" seam allowance)
Cut 1" squares from each of the bottom corners
(Measure in from the seam, not the edge, on the sewn side)
Pull the bag sides apart and line up the bottom seam so it meets the side seam.
(For the side without the seam, estimate the center)
Pin in place
Sew both openings closed 1/2 from the edge
MAKE THE LINING
Just like the exterior, fold the lining in half lengthwise and sew down the open side and across the bottom, however this time leave a 2" opening about 4" from the top of the bag to turn
Repeat the steps above to box out the corners
ASSEMBLE EXTERIOR & LINING
> With right sides together, place the exterior of the bag inside the lining
> Match up the seams and pin in place
> Sew around the top using 1/2" seam allowance
> Pull the exterior through the opening in the lining
> Push the lining down into the exterior
Press & Topstitch
Close the opening in the lining with a ladder or slip stitch
ADD THE TIE
> Fold the tie in half to find the center and mark with a pin or pencil
> Fold down the top of the bag to expose the lining
> Center the tie 3/4" from the top of the bag
> Sew in place along the seam line
Add a bottle of wine, fold down the bag to expose the lining and tie in place!
Add a set of matching coasters if desired.
Just made one yesterday. It was PERFECT and the directions were super easy to follow. AWESOME!
