Now that the kids have a new playroom, I wanted to give them some comfy seating. I know when I was a kid, I loved bean bags. I started shopping around for one only to find they are extremely expensive! My husband suggested I make one. I suppose I could’ve come up with my own pattern, but honestly I just don’t have the time. I was so happy to come across this fellow Etsian:
R’z Cozy Creations is owned and operated by a stay at home Mom of two girls and she specializes in bean bags, bean bag liners and sells her bean bag pattern for the Cozy Bean Bag Chair. You know I am a huge fan of supporting other Etsy Shop owners….I am even happier to support another Mom crafter!
Difficulty Level: Very Easy. This pattern was super simple. The most difficult part was sewing on the velcro…..anyone can take on this project!
What I Loved:
I love the pictures that accompany the directions. They make it very simple to follow. I also love that I made this in about an hour.
What I Didn’t Love:
Nothing, really. Loved the pattern, love the finished product!
Suggested Changes:
None.
Tips:
My tips don’t have anything to do with the pattern itself. My first tip is to make or purchase a liner for the bean bag (Rz Cozy Creations sells them if you don’t feel like making one yourself). The filling is very messy and enclosing it in a liner makes cleaning the outer shell very easy.
Tip two…I had a hard time trying to find bean bag fill that didn’t cost a lot to ship. Most companies charge about $25 for 4-5 cubic feet of fill and then charge $30 to ship it. Crazy. I finally stumbled across a site called Mejier which sold the fill for $9.99 and charged the same for shipping. One bag of 3.5 cubic feet was perfect for this size chair. You can purchase it here.
Would I Recommend It? Absolutely! If you have kids, don’t spend over $100 for a bean bag chair when you can make one yourself for less than half the cost. Best part – you can match your decor with any fabric you like. You can see here, I used the same fabric as the curtain that my kids use for their “hideaway”. Now they can sit back there and read books or just lounge.

Also thanks for the site to buy the beans. I looked everywhere, and like you mention it was more to ship them. I am going to post this in my etsy shop, I hope that will be ok! Thanks so much again.
