Pinch me! Really....I still can't believe it! I have been holding back a big secret this past month, and finally let the cat out of the bag on Monday when I announced that I was going to be on The Katie Couric Show.
Let me start by saying this opportunity to be on the show completely came out of left field. I received an email from a show producer on a Tuesday evening. The producer told me that she wanted to talk to me about sewing, Sewplicity, and the possibility of appearing on their show. I replied to the email early Wednesday morning and promptly at 9am received a call from the producer. We chatted a bit and within 30 minutes I was booked for the taping on Thursday. THURSDAY! The following day!
Needless to say, the rest of my Wednesday consisted of shopping for a colorful outfit to wear (they tell you to wear bright colors). The only saving grace of this whirlwind scheduling was that I really didn't have that much time to be nervous! I needed to be at the studio by 9am on Thursday for hair and make-up (yeah, how cool is that?!), so I woke up at the crack of dawn, although I really didn't sleep the night before anyway, to catch a train into NYC.
When I arrived at the studio, I was brought into the green room where I had a chance to meet the two other amazing women who were on the panel with me. Shakira Smiley from San Francisco, the canning guru from BiRite Market, and Shannon Hayes, author and self-sustained farmer from Cobleskill, NY. All of us had some time to chat and get to know each other during our together before the taping.
Before we knew it, it was our turn to be brought on set. Before they taped our segment, Katie came backstage to welcome us. I can honestly say that she is just as friendly and easy going as she appears on tv. She put us all at ease.
Once we were onstage and sitting in front of the studio cameras and audience everything becomes a blur in my memory. It was all a bit overwhelming and my adrenaline was working overtime. My friends asked me after the taping what Katie asked and I honestly couldn't remember!
The past month has whizzed by and I still can't believe this really happened. You have to understand, I'm a quiet, keep to myself, comfortable in the background kinda girl. Always have been. Always will be! Being on national TV is a GIGANTIC step outside my comfort zone. I wasn't even sure I was going to watch the show because I was so nervous about the whole thing! Of course once it aired I couldn't resist, and I was so relieved that my nerves did not give themselves away like I thought they may have!
So here it is if you missed it...the video clip of the segment I shared with Shakira and Shannon on Katie's Show.
I am so honored to have been asked to appear on Katie's show and to have met these entrepreneurial women. This was totally unexpected and a moment in my life which I will remember forever.
I can't thank my family, friends, customers and fans enough for supporting me throughout the past few years of running Sewplicity. I look forward to many more years of sharing my sewing passion with all of you!
Now...let's get back to sewing!!!
