Attic Treasures

This weekend we did a super-clean of our attic space before putting away our Christmas decorations.  Over the summer we had a vent ridge put in our roof which caused a huge mess up there that we haven't gotten to.  Our attic is basically an unfinished, dimly lit crawlspace where mice hang out in the winter.  ugh.  So, my hubby crawled up there and took all the storage containers out so he could take the shop vac up and clean everything.

As he pulled out all of the clothing, holiday decorations, books, keepsakes and such he came across an super old suitcase.  Upon opening it we found this:
Lots of papers, cards, letters, bills and newspaper clippings from the Kennedy Assasination...everything from the 1940s-1950s.  All this belongs to his parents who lived in this house before us!   It is like stepping back in time when you find something like this.  memories locked away waiting to be found.  A true time capsule....
The picture below is a boat receipt from 1947!
And one of my favorite finds...the one that made me want to post this....
A little notebook filled with all different scrawlings....including one that had a FABRIC shopping list!
From a time when many more people knew how to sew...when sewing was more of a necessity than a hobby.  How much fun!!!

I think I may need to start a little time capsule so one day my kids can "stumble" across it and enjoy the find as much as we did.

Oh, and my hubby's parents are still alive and well so we will be sharing this with them and I'm sure they will get even more enjoyment out of this than we did!  What a fun way to start out 2013!

Happy Monday!
