A Summer Bucket Hat

As corny as this is, I just have to say it....."Hats off" to Sew Much Ado for posting this great tutorial for the 4-in-1 Reversible Bucket Hat!  I came across this tute by random and added it to my "must-do" list.  I recently received a fabric order and included in the order was a fat quarter pack of Robert Kaufman's Mingle in Hot Stuff.

As soon as I saw the tute, I knew I knew this was a perfect match

So, when the crocuses popped up in my yard the other day.....
I printed out the pattern pieces and got to work.
Thankfully the tutorial is super easy to follow and quick too!  My girls were all too excited when they saw the hats, so we threw on our jackets and headed outside to get some photos!

I added a few bands of stitching to stiffen up the rim - I also used a medium interfacing on both the interior and exterior fabrics.
I appliqued their initials to one side of the hat - One, because it's cute, but more importantly so they don't fight over who's is who's!

I love the way the hats came out, however if I would change one thing, I would shorten the middle band by about an inch.....it's just a bit too high - almost top-hattish.  Perhaps I would add that inch to the brim to make it more of a sun-hat.
Now....all we need is the warm weather!  Really....we're ready!

I like your idea of making the hat a bit shorter & the brim a bit wider too...

  2. Thank you!!! Yep...would really like them a smidge shorter, but the girls are happy, and that's all that really matters, right?!
