TUTORIAL: Framed Chalkboard

Have you seen those nice framed chalkboards on Pinterest or around the web?

Whether you want one for your kids, your kitchen or as a photo prop, there is no need to go out and spend a lot of money on one.....nope....

You can make your own (or as many as you like), quite cheaply.  Keep on reading to see how!

First, you need to pick up a couple of things....
  • A picture frame (I purchased these cheapos for $3.00 a piece, or maybe you even have one laying around!)
  • Primer Spray Paint
  • Chalkboard Spray Paint

I purchased ALL of the above from Walmart for about $10.00.

Take the glass out of the frame and clean it thoroughly.  Let it dry.  Place it on a drop cloth or cardboard outside (or in a well ventilated area) and spray it with 1 coat of Primer (follow the directions on the can).
Let it dry completely (about an hour), then spray it with a coat of chalkboard paint (follow the directions on the can).
Let it dry for about an hour and put a second coat of chalkboard paint on it.
Let it dry completely (about 24 hours).

Once dry, you can place it back in the frame.
Now, you need to prep the board by taking a piece of chalk and completely covering the surface of the chalkboard with a coat of it (use the side of the chalk piece).
Clean it off and you have a perfectly beautiful chalkboard to use as you please!
