Reversible |
For this pad, I used cotton on the exterior and 2 layers of wool felt on the interior. You can use either felt or fleece - both offer great absorbency power.
This tutorial offers two options. The REVERSIBLE option, which requires a little fold and tuck to fit the chair and the FITTED option which makes the "tuck" permanent. Of course, you could reverse this option, however you will see the seams if you do!

I found your site through this post on Craftster... seriously, this is fantastic. Actually, your blog is pretty fantastic! I'm loving all your tutorials. I'll share links on my fb, and I'm adding your button to my blog! :) Looking forward to more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch ReFabulous! I'm loving your blog too! Please do share your seat protector when finished....I love to see finished projects!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAwesome tutorial! I just made this, your directions and pattern were super clear and easy to follow. I used shower curtain material for the back piece to add an extra layer of protection. Thanks for the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteI just found this and cant wait to make it!!!
ReplyDeleteCan I use regular felt? Wool felt is a little thicker.
ReplyDeleteYou can use anything you like. Felt or PUL both work well!
DeleteThank you for your response. Just starting potty training my daughter.
DeleteDoes the pattern need to be enlarged? The length of seat cover I just made is 15inches long. It looks small compared to your photo. Thanks
DeleteNo, the pattern should be printed true to size. This is a small pad that only covers the seat of the chair - you don't want it to interfere with the straps!! If your chair is much larger, you can always add an inch around the entire perimeter of the pattern.
DeleteJust put the pad in the car seat the fit is perfect. It just looked small to me. Thanks for posting this very simple tutorial.
DeleteI DO NOT sew, lol, but I Love this for the car seat. I'll be potty training my daughter shortly and was wondering if you sold these pre-made?
DeleteThank you
Thanks for the pattern and instructions! It was very easy, start (printing it) to finish was 45 minutes or less.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! So glad it worked out for you :)
DeleteI made one of these last night. I used flannel on the inside and PLU on the back. I was not thinking and sewed the wrong sides together like I was making a quilt so I used bias tape on the edges to finish it. I need to make another one for my husbands car seat next, maybe I can remember to sew right sides together this time. lol
ReplyDeleteHopefully we will only need it a few months anyway. My youngest is almost potty trained. I uploaded a pic on the flicker group. thanks for the pattern.
Great job Wendy - you would never know there was an "oops"!
DeleteWhat a great idea! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea - just found it on Pinterest and so glad I did!
ReplyDeleteGoing to make these for the seats to keep them dry after splish-splashing in the splash pads at the park! Saves having to get the kiddos changed in the public toilets. :o) Thank you so much for the tutorial!
