Tutorial: Fabric Bank Box

Today’s Scrappy Saturday project is a Fabric Bank Box.  This was inspired by my 4 yr old daughter.  We recently assigned her some chores along with a chore chart.  At the end of the week she gets an allowance if all of her chores have been completed.  While she has a piggy bank already, I wanted to have a separate place for her to put her allowance so she can start learning the concept of “earning pay” .  So, instead of running out an purchasing another piggy bank, I thought I’d make one!

The fabric bank box has a money slot on the top and a flip tab on the bottom so you can get the money out.  You can get creative with this and if you make it bigger (which my first one was), you can eliminate the slot, make the bottom the top, have a larger opening and make it a storage cube for stuffed animals or anything really.  Kids have such great imaginations….let them decide what to do with it!

This week I decided to skip the video.  Honestly it takes too much time to make them and while they look cool,  I’m not sure they are as valuable as a downloadable file, so I am going to focus my time and energy on the PDF files from now on.

What You Will Need:

> 6 – 6” square coordinating fabric scraps
> 6 – 6” squares 1-sided fusible peltex 
> 5” square of heavyweight sew-in peltex
> 10” of ¾” Velcro
> Coordinating thread
> Fray Check
