Here is a stitch that has made me say "goodbye" to that ugly slipstitch. I call it the invisible stitch. You won't be able to see it when you are done!
Step 1:
Start by ironing the seam you are working with. The crease will allow for a neat closure.
Insert the needle from the inside of the seam to enclose the knot.
Step 2:
Move the needle to the opposite side entering the crease exactly opposite from where the thread came out on the other side. Keeping the needle parallel to the opening, pull the needle out (the same side) about 1/8".
Step 3:
Now move the needle directly across (to the opposite side) from where the thread came out. Once again, keep the needle parallel to the opening and pull it out about 1/8" .
Step 4:
Continue with this process. You will end up with something that looks like a ladder. You will want to pull it tight every few stitches.
Continue doing this until your seam is closed up and tie off as usual.
And that is the invisible stitch. One you use it, you'll never go back to the slipstitch!
