Spring has sprung!
One of my annual tasks at the first sign of spring is to get my front porch cleaned up. During the winter it becomes a dumping ground, but when the mild weather hits, it is the place where we spend the majority of our indoor time.
The porch is surrounded by windows and last year I had big dreams of giving it a makeover. I started by updating the antique wicker table that we keep there.
My next goal was to replace the ugly, boringly white, insulated curtains that we purchased 6 years ago to try and prolong our porch season (which didn't work by the way) with some more colorful, fun ones that let the light shine through, but protect us from the strong rays.
To keep it simple, I knew I wanted to find something that would work with the existing traverse curtain rods. This meant pinch pleats. Now, if you look into pinch pleat curtains, they are NOT cheap. And when you need enough to cover 3 walls of windows the cost can get outrageous.
Needless to say, I decided that it would be more economical, and more rewarding to make my own. I'll be honest - the thought of making my own pinch pleat curtains was quite intimidating - that is until I found THIS tutorial by Prudent Baby.
I took my measurements and ordered a whole lot of fabric, some Wide Drapery Pleater Tape
and some Drapery Hooks.

This weekend I started my project. While I've only done one panel, I'm so excited about it that I need to share it with you!
Would you believe me if I told you that this panel took me about an hour? Really!
How awesome is that? The most difficult part was measuring and working with such large pieces of fabric. You need a lot of floor space!
Now that I've done one, I am confident and inspired to finish the rest of them. So, if you are in the market for pinch pleat curtains, you really need to consider making them yourself. You will be shocked how easy they are!
