TUTORIAL: Make Your Own Pillow Form

Do you have any batting scraps laying around that you aren't quite sure what to do with?  Because of the nature of my business, I go through A LOT of batting - and I make A LOT of batting scraps!  I can't stand the thought of throwing it away, so I try to find ways to use it up.....
But how many ottomans can one really make?
Lately I've been into making pillows covers...so nice to recover something old, isn't it?

But when you want to gift a pillow, you can't very well give an old pillow with a new cover, can you?   Pillow forms are the best way to go, but they can get quite costly....so if you have some batting scraps laying around, why not make your own pillow forms?!

Here is how to do it....it's so easy you can make one within 10 minutes!  All you need is batting (hi-loft works best, but you can try it with any type)

STEP 1
Cut two batting squares/rectangles 1" larger than the size form you want.  Keep all the excess....you will need it later.  (I wanted a 14"x14" square, so these were cut 15"x15")
STEP 2
Place the two batting squares/rectangles on top of one another and sew around the perimeter using a 1/2" seam allowance.  Leave a 3-4" opening to turn.
STEP 3
Turn the form right side out.
Stuff it until it reaches your desired plushness.  Avoid "balling up" the batting when stuffing it to avoid lumps.  Play with the stuffing until it feels soft and lumpless.
STEP 4
Sew the opening shut - no need to be neat and perfect - it's an insert - nobody will see it!
YOU'RE FINISHED!
Really....that's it!

Not only is this a way to use up all those batting scraps and reduce waste, but it can save you a good amount of money if you are an avid pillow-maker!

Here is one of my self-made pillow forms inside a cover!
Enjoy!
