I loved this little basket so much, I decided to make one with some sturdier canvas since the first one seemed a bit too weak for holding a few sets of keys. This time I used a home decor fabric for the sides(I picked up 2 remnants for .50 - and only used 1/4 of one) and canvas for the bottom and lining. I also used fusible fleece on the exterior to create a bit of softness. This made the basket much more hefty and I would highly recommend it if you are purposing the basket for something like keys.
I also changed the way I put this together...since I wanted the tabs incorporated in the seam, I made the exterior basket first, then the lining, then placed the lining inside the exterior basket (right sides together). I placed my tabs between the layers and then made my top seam. I turned the pieces right-side-out through a 2.5" seam in the lining. I finished the tabs by folding them over and adding the button.
I found that it was much quicker to assemble the basket this way - maybe because it's the same way I assemble my totes. It just seemed easier. (Perhaps I'll get around to posting a detailed tutorial on how I did it).
